Included in this collection are seventeenth-, eighteenth-, and nineteenth-century Japanese illustrated books (ehon) from the holdings of the Asian Art Department at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Department owns over two hundred of these books, many that have had very little exposure to the public.
In the near future and over time, nearly 400 volumes from the Department of Asian Art's recently acquired Vershbow collection of Japanese illustrated books will be added to this collection. To date, one Vershbow volume is available online: Mountains of the Heart (Kyōchūzan), 1816, by Kameda Bōsai (1752–1826), here: http://libmma.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p16028coll7/id/2737.
