Included in this collection are seventeenth-, eighteenth-, and nineteenth-century Japanese illustrated books (ehon) from the holdings of the Asian Art Department at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Department owns over two hundred of these books, many that have had very little exposure to the public.
In the near future, volumes from the Arthur and Charlotte Vershbow Collection of Japanese Illustrated Books also will be added to this online collection. The Vershbow Collection, acquired by The Metropolitan Museum of Art in the autumn of 2013, is remarkable for its range and quality of impressions of ehon. One volume is now online: Mountains of the Heart (Kyōchūzan), 1816, by Kameda Bōsai (1752–1826): http://libmma.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p16028coll7/id/2737
